Louisiana Detention Centers Overview

The immigration crisis is a growing problem across the country, and Louisiana is no exception. With an ever-increasing number of immigrants arriving in the United States, many areas are facing overcrowding in their detention centers. Unfortunately, this issue has become particularly severe in Louisiana—forcing authorities to take extreme measures to provide adequate accommodation for all detainees.

In recent years, more than 10,000 immigrants have been held in Louisiana’s detention centers. This number has been steadily increasing, as more and more people seek refuge in the United States from their home countries. With large numbers of migrants flooding into the country each month, there simply isn't enough space to house them all—which is why overcrowding at these facilities has become a growing problem.

There are currently 9 facilities located in and around Louisiana:

1. Central Louisiana ICE Processing Center located in Jena, Louisiana

2. Pine Prairie ICE Processing Center located in Pine Prairie, Louisiana

3. South Louisiana ICE Processing Center located in Basile, Louisiana

4. Allen Parish Public Safety Complex located in Oberlin, Louisiana

5. Richwood ICE Processing Center located in Monroe, Louisiana

6. Winn Correctional Center located in Winnfield, Louisiana

7. Jackson Parish Correctional Center located in Jonesboro, Louisiana

8. River Correctional Center located in Ferriday, Louisiana

9. Adams County Correctional Facility located in Natchez, Mississippi – technically not in Louisiana but feeds most detainees to Louisiana facilities.
